LEGO MindStorms NXT Robotics Engineering

Our newest program, LEGO Mindstorms robotics, will teach students to build the coolest robots available! These programs are now available in addition to our After School Science Club, and are listed separately from our regular after school science enrichment program. We encourage your child to try both of our after school science programs.

New for Summer Camp 2012!

Engaging does not even start to describe this camp which combines solid fuel rocketry and LEGO Robotics. This NXT-based space adventure is designed for use with LEGO Mindstorms robots and software. Our program for the week provides everything needed to facilitate an exciting STEM-based robocamp. STEM is an acronysm for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math -- and it is a fundamental part of this camp by providing a hands-on minds-on environment.

We will combine the LEGO experience with Estes Rocket Labs as campers design and build their own rockets. When they are finished, they watch their rockets blast toward the stratosphere!

In Camp Deep Space, campers are first asked to learn basics in the training areas on the Space Shuttle Entropy. Next, campers visit a series of moons, where they hone their terraforming skills. The adventure culminates on the planet Pantheon. Robo campers help transform Pantheon into an environment where humanoids live and thrive.

Please note that due to the expense of the LEGO® MINDSTORMS kits, and the necessity to program with computers, students will not be taking their robots home at the conclusion of the camp.

Beginning Fall 2012

ClubScientific will offer two After-School LEGO Robotics courses:
LEGO WeDo - for ages from 8 years
LEGO Mindstorms - for ages from 8 years

LEGO® Education WeDo™ — Beginning Robotics
Students aged 8 to 11+ get a head start on simple robotics with this concept. They build models, attach sensors and motors that are plugged into a computer, and configure behaviors using a simple programming tool. The activity pack is divided into four themes: Amazing Mechanisms, Wild Animals, Play Soccer and Adventure Stories. It covers topics within science, technology, mathematics and language.

LEGO® MINDSTORMS Education — Advanced Robotics
Students aged 8 to 16+ learn to design, program and control fully-functional models. They use software to plan, test and modify sequences of instructions for a variety of life-like robotic behaviors. And they learn to collect and analyze data from sensors, using data logging functionalities embedded in the software. Curriculum lessons are developed by Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Academy and provide a series of real-life activities, covering topics within science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Lego Robotics After School Programs
ClubScientifics' LEGO Robotic enrichment program consists of weekly one hour sessions that last for 14 weeks. Students can build and program robots to perform a variety of different functions. For example, robots can be fitted with sensors which control motors and react to light, sound, touch, etc. The cost is $225 for each 14 week semester. Students must complete the LEGO® Education WeDo™ program first. They can then take the LEGO® MINDSTORMS Education program.

Due to the expense of the LEGO® MINDSTORMS kits, and the necessity to program with computers, students will not be taking their robots home at the conclusion of the semester.
